Let's talk to Andy Cook, who's the HM Chief Inspector of Constabulary, of course, because he's put out a very interesting report. It's in the Times

today, which says the police are recording too many hate crime incidents and getting involved

in disputes that include hurt feelings. And this is from the Inspector of Constabulary, of course, Andy Cook, who we have here.

Sarpal review of 120 cases of non-crime incidents and hate crimes found that 30 should not have been recorded at all.

The report examined whether the police are too politically correct.

1,750 inmates are currently being released. We're also keeping an eye on that.

You can see that live camera down there at HMP BRICS. And we've already seen about half a dozen people

come out this morning alone. And the logic, of course, is that apparently the prison service

wants to lock up the people who are currently being sent down through the criminal justice system

who have nowhere to go. Andy, very good morning to you. Good morning. Just before I get onto your

incredible report about the recording of hate crime incidents, let me just ask you about this

releasing of prisoners that's going on today. I mean, the logic, as we heard from our caller just there in Newcastle,

is a bit like, as he says, you know, taking your rubbish and tipping it out back into the living room

so you can put more rubbish in the bin outside.

I think the government were in a difficult position in relation to what they could do

due to the prison's crisis.

Undoubtedly, it does mean that this will put additional pressure on both policing and probation services and others.

And they are all going to have to step up to the mark
