When a quarterback who's drafted so high doesn't get that 50-year option picked up,

immediately the thought is he's done, he's down the road.

Since that happened, what have you heard and observed with Mitch?

And how do you forecast his opportunity to still win this job this fall?

It basically took us one hour to make a couple phone calls, explain it to Mitch. He understands,

and then we all move on. Now, he's very, very competitive. And I think that what this is is a healthy

competition between him and Nick. They're good people, which makes it a lot easier. But they're

very, very competitive. And so this is going to bring the most out of them.

And he handled it great, really, really proud of him for that.

And I think that they're both really looking forward to the future.

A decision the Bears have made before as it relates to cornerback, Kyle Fuller,

not picking up the fifth year option and then maybe ultimately doing a new contract with the

player at some point down the road. But I understand why the Bears did not pick up the Mitch

Trubisky option. 24 million plus for next year, 2021, guaranteed for for injury which means if anything happens to him

at any point this year and he can't pass a physical before march of next year they're on the hook for

all that money and if he has a great year if something happens if lightning strikes and they have

to franchise tag him it's not much more to franchise tag him than it is to pick up the fifth year

option especially if there's a chance of salary cap goes down because if the cap goes down next year, the franchise tag number goes down as well. So I understand why they did it. There's no reason to make that commitment and then worry about him getting injured. And now, hey, Mitch, here's your chance. Go out there and prove yourself, win the starting job,

or if you get a chance to play due to injury or whatever, go out and play well. And it's the proverbial

good problem to have Big Cat if they end up having two franchise tag Mitchell Trubisky next year.

Yeah, and I'm still rooting for Mitch Trubisky. It would be crazy not to.
