about a Catholic schoolgirl from Sacramento who's also looking to adulthood with plenty of trepidation.

In the most prominent of several great and unexpected

casting decisions, the young Irish actress Shersher Ronan stars as Christine, but insists on calling

herself Lady Bird, one of the comprehensive array of quirks that she uses to separate herself

from her peers. Lady Bird attends a private school, but unlike many of her classmates, her parents

can't easily

afford to send her there. As she dreams of fleeing Sacramento for an East Coast college,

her contentious mother, played by Lori Metcalf, and her pushover of a father, played by Tracy

Letts, struggle to make tuition. Meanwhile, she experiments in the theater, embarks on relationships

with two very different boyfriends, and tries to fit in with a popular crowd.
