me. So tell us how you were first introduced to mountain biking.

Well, you know, I was an athlete in high school, and it's pretty much how I defined myself.

Sports were my whole world, and then I went off to college and didn't play sports anymore.

And I lost my fitness and kind of lost my identity with that. But my dad had bought me a

mountain bike, a, I think specialized hard rock to take to college as my transportation. And when I would

come home, I went to college in Arizona, but I grew up in Portland, Oregon. And when I would come home for

my breaks, my summer breaks and spring breaks, my dad and I would go ride fire roads outside of

Portland because there's no trails in Portland. Right. Still. Yep, still. And then after college,

I kind of jumped right into the working world, got a great job

in advertising and PR, and still really struggled to get my fitness back. I really missed the

camaraderie of team sports and kind of didn't know where to turn. And this was in the mid-90s.

So one day my dad and I were riding up this fire road called Leaf Erickson Road,

one of the only like dirt fire roads right outside the city and a group of guys who

seemed to be kind of racing each other road past us. And I looked at my dad and said, I'm going to
