Welcome to Navarra Live. I'm Michael Walker. I'll be joined in a short while by Aaron Bustani.

0:22.4

Coming up tonight, we'll discuss Labour's changes to their workers' rights bill. Are they

0:28.3

selling out workers to try and please their big donors, or is it potentially a little bit more

0:34.6

prosaic than that? Also, the right-wing press are now panicking about emigration. So we're used to them sort of saying, there are too many people coming to this country. That had been lobbied against hard by businesses and had been opposed by a majority in the House of Lords. And Labor

1:46.2

last night relented. So they announced they were ditching day one rights against unfair dismissal,

1:51.6

instead giving workers that right after six months of employment, which is down from two years,

1:57.3

which is where it currently is. And Bridget Phillipson defended watering down the employment rights bill on the Today program.

2:04.2

You said when you were campaigning to be deputy leader, and I quote,

2:07.3

that you would ensure it is enacted in full and not watered down, no ifs or buts.

2:14.2

It has had to be watered down, hasn't it?

2:15.9

I did say that.

2:16.7

I said that when addressing TUC Congress and TUC representing our trade unions have been involved in all of these discussions about taking forward the employment rights bill. Unfair dismissal will be cut from a two-year current limit down to six months. That is a big step forward. It's not day one, there is it? It's not day one. No, it's not day one. But it is day one where it comes to other important areas like sick pay,

2:39.3

where many of the lowest paid workers in our country will see a huge boost to their rights at work.
