Education Secretary and Labour MP for Houghton and Sunderland South.

Now, we spoke to her about her campaign to become the next deputy leader of the Labour Party,

the two-child benefit cap, the ceasefire deal in Gaza,

Kirstarmer's leadership and how Labour should take on reform.

So we're delighted to be joined today by Bridget Phillipson, the education secretary,

who's also in the running to be deputy leader of the Labour Party, a very busy woman at the moment,

I think. Hello, Bridget. Hello, good to be with you. But we need to start with the news that Israel and Hamas have agreed to the initial phase of a ceasefire plan in Gaza, it must

feel like a moment of huge relief. Absolutely. It's incredibly welcome news. What this needs to be

is a moment where we see the hostages released. We see that big escalation and aid that's needed,

but also that this represents a moment where we can

move towards a two-state solution. It's right that we as a country have recognised the Palestinian

state, but this has to be the start of the process towards a lasting peace.

And Gaza is obviously an issue which has really gripped Labour and members who feel

very strongly about it, don't they?

It's hard not to feel incredibly strongly about it when you see the level of suffering,

when you see the extreme levels of hardship, of suffering and the terrible impact that this has had on children in particular. But I also hope that coming out of this, we'll see the release of
