They're not confined, obviously, through history to any community or cultural religion.

If you couldn't display, I don't know if you knew this, it's

pretty grim actually, you might want to look away briefly. If you couldn't display a blood-stained

sheet on the morning after your wedding night in some Catholic Christian cultures, then

marriage could sort of be called off, or certainly the groom would have grounds for demanding justice.
