With his pledge to reintroduce a 50-P additional rate of income tax, at is as euphemistically described,

Ed Miliband has abandoned any pretense that a Labour government led by him will have a constructive working relationship with business or wealth creators.

It is a depressing prospectus.

The conventional wisdom is that parties are too much alike,

but often they strive to emphasize difference where there is little to create blue water for the sake of it.

Sometimes as in the case of Scottish nationalism this entails what sociologist call an

othering of another group, in this case the imagined English, to justify separation.

In case you wondered, I don't like it.
