Two massive wildfires that have demolished parts of the Los Angeles area are still burning.

But the good news is they haven't gotten worse. Some 8,500 firefighters from at least seven states and two foreign countries were able to keep the fires from growing yesterday,

even in the face of high winds and low humidity. Firefighters are going to keep at it 24 hours a day,

too, since those same weather conditions are expected to stick around for another day from the Mexican border to central California.

Meanwhile, more people who live in the disaster zone are getting their first looks at the destruction.

A few thousand more evacuees were allowed back home yesterday, well, if they still had homes to return to.

Entire neighborhoods have burned, including thousands of homes.

And about 88,000 people are still under evacuation orders.

Community organizers and waves of volunteers have been creating refuges around the area to help survivors cope with the devastation.

People have been organizing drives, and enough donations have come in to fill warehouses.

Volunteers have also started delivering fresh meals and snacks

to first responders and evacuees with the help of local restaurants. Others have shown up to help

animal shelters and rescue organizations that have been taking in pets whose owners have fled.
