To mark the occasion, the Duolingo French podcast is revisiting some of our favorite stories

from women trailblazers across the Francophone world.

Today we'll feature an episode from March 2020.

It's about a very special foodie from Arras, a small town in northern France.

Her name is Virginie Dubois Dorn.

And her story is a love story, with a twist.

Yes, it's about how Virginie met her husband Jean-François in college, but it's also about

a woman who discovers a love for selling cheese.

Love works in mysterious ways, and it took Virginie to places she'd never dreamed of.

Growing up in the north of France near Belgium, Virginie Dorn loved eating cheese.

But she hated going to buy it at the Frommageerie, the cheese shop.

As an adult, Virginie was certain she'd never worked in retail.

She wanted to be a university professor and a mother.

In 2003 at the age of 28, she was on track to do both.

She was pursuing a PhD in literature and was engaged to a political science graduate

named Jean-François Dubois.

We went to the museum together.

We talked about politics, religions.
