Summary

Maybe when you think of Los Angeles you think of mega highways, gridlock traffic, and urban sprawl. But our guest today argues that it is actually an underrated destination for enjoying the outdoors. Rosecrans Baldwin, author of Everything Now: Lessons from the City State of Los Angeles, shares his favorite places in the city to enjoy nature, from urban parks to mountain trails…and then he’ll also take us even further out there, to a wilderness survival course and a class on talking to plants. More about today’s guest: https://www.rosecransbaldwin.com/ We always want to hear from you! If you have a question or story for us, give us a call at 315-992-7902 and leave a message, or send an email to hello@atlasobscura.com.

1:06.1

The infamous palm rat.

The infamous palm rat.

1:10.9

I'm not anti-palm, but it is

1:12.6

a wild thing for us to be associated with

1:15.1

when on the biodiversity level,

1:19.5

on the nature level,

1:20.9

we actually have true wilderness here.

1:23.6

This is my friend Rosecrans Baldwin.

1:26.0

He's the author of a book called Everything Now, Lessons from the City State of Los Angeles.

1:32.0

And while he was doing reporting for that book, Rosecrans explored the city from a million different angles.

1:38.6

Everything from urban hikes to shadowing actors during award seasons, to sitting through strange, culty self-help

1:47.2

seminars. In other words, he knows a lot about L.A. And even though L.A. is a city often associated
