Los Angeles is home to the largest population of Iranians outside of Iran.

But over the past two months, the U.S.'s war with Iran has widened the political rift that's

been growing within the diaspora community. Many fled Iran after the 1979 revolution, and some have supported the war on their home country

that in late February removed their supreme leader.

But that sparked backlash against Iranian Americans who opposed the war,

with critics accusing them of sympathizing with the Iranian government.

Far-right influencer Laura Lumer has played a key role in targeting people within the local community,

taking credit for two women's arrests and saying she had been, quote,

quietly documenting their social media and sharing that information with the government.

One 25-year-old studying fashion at the Los Angeles Trade Technical College

ended up with her mother in an immigration detention center in Texas

after being caught in the midst of this political storm.

And after four weeks in detention, the 25-year-old says she's still in disbelief.

The Department of Homeland Security, the White House, the State Department, and far-right

activist Laura Lumer, declined the LA Times' request for comment about the cases.
