I was a star baseball player.

I didn't pay the crowd in the mind.

My mind was on winning.

And then when you do something, then it wakes you up.

But I was out there.

When I had the ball, they had to knock it out of my hand,

and I wasn't going to let that happen.

But it's a great feeling to be playing for a big crowd,

because I have to stand, you know, you ain't going to get nothing.

When you see that standing for, it gives you inspiration to go.

You give you that willpower to do something.

Still if you had a couple nice looking girls waiting for you too,

that made it much better.

The late great Ted Double Duty Ratcliffe, one of the great nicknames and one of the great characters

and one of the great players of the Negro Leagues.

And I am thrilled to have with me as my guest today on Black Diamonds,

someone who knew double duty, well, as well as anyone.

And he is an author and a tremendous researcher and very knowledgeable about the history of the Negro Leagues and certainly knows a lot about this character, this great ball player by the name of duty, Ted Double Duty Radcliffe.
