My guest on the podcast today is Kurt Kelty, Vice President of Battery, Propulsion, and Sustainability at General Motors.

Despite the gathering headwinds for electric vehicles, GM has made some big bets in recent weeks on batteries and its long-term EV future.

How do we reduce costs? How do we improve performance? And then the third thing is localizing the supply chain.

Those are the three pillars that we're really focusing on.

So we're going to delve into that with Kurt in just a minute. First, we have a look at this week's headlines from around the mobility realm. For that, I am joined by my automotive

news colleague, Molly Boygan. Molly, how are you today? I'm doing well, thanks, Pete. How are you?

Doing great. I think if there's one big overarching headline this week,

it comes from the Environmental Protection Agency, which is taking what seems like a seismic step,

at least, and I hope you can add some details, it seems like they're at least starting down the road

of doing away with all vehicle emissions rules? Yes. So the EPA is reportedly looking at

overturning what's called the endangerment finding. This is the EPA's finding that pollution from

fossil fuels like carbon dioxide can be regulated under the

Clean Air Act and is related to the nation and the world's fight against climate change.

So if the EPA overturns the endangerment finding, it undermines all of the environmental

policy and regulation that's based on the

assumption that burning fossil fuels is bad for the environment. What is the timeline for the EPA

potentially overturning the endangerment rule and then moving forward on erasing everything that

is based upon that. So that's not completely clear. The EPA administrator, Lee Zeldin,

said in March that the agency was going to look at the endangerment finding. The reporting

out last week purports that the government is going to release the proposal
