trying out something new on Saturdays, bringing you the best from the KUOW Newsroom.

Earlier this week, we talked with a community group working towards solutions for some of the

biggest issues in Seattle's Little Saigon neighborhood.

Friends of Little Saigon is working with the city to help reinvigorate the neighborhood,

and among other things, to convince business owners to take down

protective fencing and barbed wire from around their establishments. It may take some time.

Drugs, crime, and desperation seem ever present in the area around 12th in Jackson, which is where

we're going to pick up this story today. KUOW's Will James is very good

at unwinding some of society's most intractable issues. In his documentary hotspot,

Will examines how fentanyl fuels this area and the city's attempts at stopping it. A quick note,

this podcast talks about sexual assault, drugs, and suicide.

If you go to the heart of Seattle's Chinatown International District and walk east, you'll see the

sky open up as the building shrink to just one or
