Summary

It's been quite a week for KU basketball as a  podcast series was released Tuesday with comments from former player Billy Preston and his mom blasting the KU coaches for acting as "victims" in the recruiting scandal at the center of their NCAA case.  The podcast, produced by KU business partner ESPN, comes out 48 hours AFTER the final hearings KU had with the NCAA regarding its case.   Hmmmm.  A possible punishment from the NCAA is now due this summer.    The Chiefs are not only talking about the draft, they're taking this spring to remind everyone they will reset the salary bar in the NFL sooner than later with a whopper of an extension for Patrick Mahomes.    Lions GM Brad Holmes is the first high profile sports person asked if he thinks biological males should be able to compete in girls and women's sports.  And he delivered!  Men in sports better get ready for this question as they are about to get it a lot.     And the deception and dirty dealings of the Biden's just keep piling up.  Now we learn their campaign in 2020 drummed up the letter and signatures claiming the Hunter Biden laptop was Russian and a debate clip from just before the election looks really bad now.  But nothing ever happens!

There's a compliment and I guess an insult in the fact that Kansas basketball maybe is the biggest sports story of the week in the Midwest.

0:21.9

And the compliment, obviously, is Kansas basketball is a really, really, really big deal

0:26.5

and has hundreds of thousands of into the millions of fans in the Midwest or certainly around the country.

0:32.7

The insult is they probably wouldn't be the biggest story in sports if anybody currently playing sports this time of year was any good at all.

0:42.3

The Royals are just dreadful, and sporting and the women's soccer team haven't won a game yet this year.

0:49.9

So Kansas has been front and center.

0:51.6

A lot of this started as Bill Self was at, I believe,

0:54.3

in Hutchinson at a couple of events that he did some media conferences with and talked about a

1:00.4

wide variety of issues. And one of the things that came up or didn't come up is perhaps the

1:05.9

biggest story of the week. There was a lot of talk about recruiting. Kansas has now gotten a

1:09.8

commitment from Nick Timberlake, a shooter from the East Coast. I think he's from Massachusetts originally, and he shot about 40 percent last year. This is a transfer portal player. Bill Self says he needs some size on the wing and some shooting. They lost most of their three-point shooting, and they got a veteran dude here that's going to come in, so that is good news for Kansas. They're recruiting a bunch of other transfer portal players. We don't really do heavy recruiting here on this podcast. There's plenty of places on the internet to follow all of those things if you'd like to check those out. But subsequent to that, you know, we saw some quotes from Bill self saying, look, we need to be really good in the transfer portal to have any kind of a team this year.

1:45.8

We don't have a basketball team yet.

2:01.9

We need some veteran guys and we need some players. We need a big man. And they're looking at a big man out of Michigan that if they get him, it looks like they'll pretty much have every piece they need. So you would think that Bill's self would be as good in the transfer portal as he is recruiting younger players, which he's been great at, obviously, at Kansas. But then we get a

2:08.2

report on Tuesday that, and this was really interesting, that there was a podcast series released called

2:13.2

30 for 30 by ESPN. This is not the TV show. This is a podcast. It's by a female reporter at ESPN.

2:21.2

That's an investigative journalist that's been there a long time. And this podcast is

2:26.3

slickly produced, but boy, is it slow and boring. It is four episodes. It's well over two

2:33.3

hours long. It's well over two hours long.

2:38.3

It's in depth, and it basically centers around a former Kansas basketball player named Billy Preston.

2:39.5

You may recall Billy Preston is at the center of what got Kansas initially in trouble with

2:44.4

the NCAA.
