So these are cases that we cited in our brief,

and I wanted to start my discussion with them.

I'll read the top case, which is an Idaho Supreme Court case,

evaluating whether counsel was effective in a death penalty case.

Counsel was not required to investigate defendants' entire life

in order to objectively and reasonably present mitigation evidence.

And then I like the way that the Seventh Circuit sort of rephrase the same principle

by saying, I won't read the entire quote your honor but a scorch the

earth strategy is not required we're in a standard of reasonableness and the

record that is before the court and I'll acknowledge we have not seen what

specifics if any the defense has put forward in its ex parte filing.
