The Coburger case is back in the news. And the reasons it is back in the news

is hearings because his defense team is attempting to get rid of or have suppressed the most

important evidence in this case.

And that, of course, is the DNA evidence that was discovered on the button of the knife sheath.

And these hearings that have started on Thursday are taking place right now as we speak.

The defense is claiming that the search warrants were tainted by police misconduct.

Prosecutors' investigation, including genetic genealogy, was done properly.

That's the position of the prosecutors.

With trial set to begin in August,

Kohlberger could face the death penalty.

The genetic genealogy is a relatively new technology.

And different private labs are being utilized these days.

The number one lab, of course, is a lab called Athrim

that uses investigative genetic genealogy to build family trees.

And what the defense is alleging is that the rights of privacy of accused murderer,

quadruple murderer, Brian Koberger, were violated through using this database.

And the arguments are rather unique arguments because, again, the technology of investigative genetic genealogy is relatively new.

And if you noticed, the defense hasn't said anything about the CODIS database, which is the combined DNA index system, which is run by the

FBI, which Brian Kohlberger's DNA was run through. And of course, he wasn't in the Kodas database

because he had never been convicted of a crime, of crimes that are listed or the DNA is taken
