Good morning and welcome to way too early, the show that knows everything's bigger in Texas,

including campaign spending. We're going to talk about the very expensive Republican primary fight

playing out today for the U.S. Senate. I'm Ali Vitale. On this Tuesday, May 26th, we're going to start

with the news. The United States military carried out what it called self-defense strikes yesterday in southern Iran.

A spokesman for U.S. Central Command said targets included Iranian missile launch sites and boats attempting to place mines.

Sentcom added the strikes were done to, quote, protect our troops from threats posed by Iranian forces as the U.S.

military continues to defend our forces while

using restraint during the ongoing ceasefire. It's not the first time fire has been exchanged in the

region throughout this tenuous truce. Iran didn't immediately respond to the attack publicly,

but state TV reported blasts around a city on the Strait of Hormuz, and Iran's supreme

leader said yesterday the U.S.

will no longer have a safe haven in the Gulf. That renewed set of strikes comes as an Iranian

delegation traveled to Qatar yesterday as part of peace talks. The status of negotiations, however,

remains unclear with mixed messages coming from both warring parties. The Associated Press cited two regional officials and a U.S. official who outlined some

details of a possible deal, including an end to the fighting on all fronts, including

in Lebanon, the gradual reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and seeing Iran give up its

stockpile of highly enriched uranium. President Trump, meanwhile, wrote on social media yesterday that he expected Iran to either

turn its enriched uranium over to the U.S. or bring it to another location and destroy it

in front of witnesses, maybe the atomic energy agency.

It's not clear if Iran has agreed to this, and the country's foreign ministry spokesperson said

yesterday Tehran was not discussing details of its nuclear program. It all comes as Secretary of State

Marco Rubio said negotiations with Iran could still take several days. He told reporters
