This is Open Mike Eager welcoming you to another episode of what it happened was.

This is season three, episode seven, season three.

Episode seven, shout out to everybody who's been listening and following along with our

story of Dante Ross and his incredible journey catalog legacy through the history of hip-hop music.

This episode here is one that's very, very special to me. The subject of it on paper, ostensibly

is KMD. It's a rap trio out of Long Island, New York, that Dante signed. When he was at

Electoral Records, it's part of his amazing run. Of course, one member of KMD is Zev Love X,

who goes on to become MF Doom. One of the greatest hip-hop artists of all time and inspiration to

me personally in many, many ways. And Dante Ross was there from the very beginning. He signed the

group to their first record deal. Oversauder development of their first album was right there alongside

Doom with his brother, who was also in the group DJ Subrock, passes away. And that sort of begins the

origin story of MF Doom that Dante Ross had an extremely close proximity to. So in this episode,

we'll hear all of that straight from Dante. It's an emotional episode, it's a special

episode. So just say all that upfront. There's a lot of love, joy, and loss in this episode. And

you get to hear the stories behind the creation of some fantastic music and also

get the sense that Dante and everyone who was around that time, there's a real sense of grief

and loss in mourning. And that's for DJ Subrock and for KMD as a group. And then eventually,

as of last year, MF Doom, himself, who passed away.
