Hello and welcome to the Athletic FC podcast with me Ayot Akimwaleri.

Today we're shining the light on those outside the Athletic.

We've had plenty of guests and these are their highlights.

0:16.4

You'll hear from a former England goalkeeper, a Manchester City legend

0:20.1

and about a manager who has

0:22.1

everyone's attention. Only one place to begin, really, and I'll admit it. It's kind of the

0:30.9

inspiration for this show. Come back with me to the end of August. And a resort that created

0:36.7

meme after meme and really the one

0:39.3

we thought would be the final straw. But yet again, Rumen Amram still fights on, despite the

0:45.4

catastrophic loss to League 2 Grimsby in the Carabal Cup. So we ripped up the script, got Mariner's

0:51.0

chairman Jason Stockwood onto the podcast to hear his reaction. Some might say you were battered Manchester United yesterday. Talk to me about the last 12 hours. Oh, let's get all the fishing puns out of the way earlier. I had to do it. I had to do it. Yeah, look, what a magical evening. We got involved with the club about four years ago. It just really makes you fall in love with the game again. We couldn't be happier. Yeah, for sure um what happens when a team like yours

1:28.6

does beat manchester united in terms of firstly not team morale but secondly in terms of the noise

1:34.0

that sort of starts circulating around the club yeah we i mean we when we got involved with the

1:38.9

club it was sort of the dual purpose one we were fans originally which is fortunate that we had

1:42.9

the careers that allowed us the resources to to really improve the outcomes on the pitch. But it's all in service of we're

1:50.2

really trying to change the narrative on the town. You know, we're a post-industrial fishing town

1:55.7

associated with the fishing industry. That's gone away. We're proud of that history. And now we're

1:59.8

navigating towards the green energy revolution that we're writing the heart of. So the football club

2:04.3

is part of putting a new story and narrative into the town. So being on the world stage,

2:09.4

been invited onto, you know, podcasts like this, being on CBS in the US, being on BBC this morning,

2:14.8

just because it's a chance to tell that story, that more positive story,
