If I heard it once, I heard it a thousand times from professional golfer and longtime friend of ours, Jim Colbert, who said anybody could win a tournament on the PGA tour.

When you win the second tournament on the PGA tour, that's when the other winners on tour notice and remember your name.

I did a patrons podcast a little earlier, and I lost it just a little bit when talking about my friend Jim Colbert. I'm going to try really hard to share some fun stories today about my time with Jim and Marcia and their family and all the wonderful people that they introduced us to that became friends over the last several decades. He was an incredible ambassador for the

game of golf, a tremendous competitor, a really, really, really great person for Kansas State University, the Lake Mary Center in Kansas City, a lot of his charities and the things that he did.

Jim Colbert never did one single thing his life half-assed.

That's the best way I can describe the man, whether it was building a golf course business, whether it was playing sort of recreational golf against me,

or playing out on the PGA tour, or the businesses that he owned, or fundraising for Kansas

State and the golf program, it didn't matter what Jim Colbert did. He was all in. He played

to win at everything that he did. In fact, at a very young age, he famously said to

his wife, Marcia, when they were in high school together at Bishop Meage, he told her,

I'm going to marry you one day and take you places. It's exactly what he told her. He sat in class

right behind her and told her that, and indeed, he married her one day

and took her places.

It started out with more than humble beginnings.

As a college player, Jim was actually a football player at Kansas State, and he was good,

but not exactly NFL prototype defensive player.

And he sort of knew this.

He had played a lot of golf, and that's when he switched it up and started playing

golf at Kansas State, became a tremendous player, finished runner-up in the NCAA

singles championship, his senior year, finishing second, and then would go and try to become a pro golfer.
