Well, there's no messing around on this episode of KKHI.

We've got big breaking football news.

There's been a big change in Manhattan with Kansas State.

And Chris Kleiman announcing his retirement on Wednesday afternoon,

followed by Gene Taylor, the athletic director,

coming in, being asked about retirement and reports everywhere that it's already a done deal.

Colin Klein is the new head coach. The athletic director would not confirm that. He says he doesn't

even have Colin Klein's phone number anymore, which is the most bizarre thing I've ever heard from the AD at

Kansas State. Colin Klein's only been gone two years. He had a coach that was hinting at not coaching forever, and the hottest young coach in America you've worked with and had him there for years, and you've deleted him from your phone. I don't get any of it. I think by the time you hit the play button, it may already be announced that Colin Klein is the head coach. I believe the media reports. I think it's done. I think the follow-up, there were no follow-up questions, Gene Taylor. What he said was, I've not spoken with Colin Klein. I'm not sure I even have his phone number anymore. But that doesn't mean they haven't agreed to a deal with an agent through lawyers and other lines of communication.

And then Gene Taylor talking about retirement was really strange.

I got a home in Arizona.

I go out there and I think, why should I go back?

And I don't know what's going on.

It's not going to surprise me if Gene Taylor isn't out very soon as athletic director at Kansas State. And they do a clean sweep with a very young

NIL-oriented next-generation athletic department. None of this would surprise me. I'm not

predicting it. I'm not saying I know anything. I don't know anything about Gene Taylor and what's

going to happen there for this part, at least for today. He's not saying anything like that, but it sure

felt like maybe he's retiring too. So we shall see exactly what's going on at Kansas State. Stan Weber
