career AMC and Appleby's business executive from Overland Park that was retired for a few months

living the good life. Then suddenly,

as it looked like not a single conservative was going to run for mayor in Overland Park, Mike felt a tug,

then a nudge, then maybe a punch. After initially declining the idea, he filed his candidacy

four days before the deadline, hired his former boss to be his treasurer, and they came up

with the simplest plan ever. Running against two sitting council members and one other,

Mike decided to go door to door, look everyone in the eye and say, I'm a conservative

Republican running for mayor. We're building too many apartment complexes, and we should be

very concerned that crime is creeping its way toward our suburbs.

Most people thought he would finish fourth out of four in a nonpartisan primary.

He finished first and doubled the field, and now is the frontrunner as mayor of Ovalon Park.
