But who was Kit Carson really?

Was Carson a courageous hero and savior of the frontier?

Or simply a bloodthirsty killer in the living embodiment of manifest destiny?

Christopher Houston Carson, affectionately known as Kit, was born in Madison County, Kentucky on Christmas Eve, 1809.

The family would migrate to Missouri just a year later and settle down at Boone's Lick,

by halfway between St. Louis and present-day Kansas City.

And yeah, Boone's Lick did derive its name from a salt spring used by the sons of famed

Frontiersman Daniel Boone.

Indeed, the Carson and Boone families would grow rather close over time. They intermarried, worked together, and even helped each other
