On the morning of Sunday, March 15, 1987, Cheryl Chapman was awakened by a phone call from

the manager at the restaurant where she worked as a waitress.

Her sister, Nancy Newman, also worked for the same restaurant, but had not arrived for

her six o'clock shift and the manager had tried to call her for almost two hours with

no response.

Nancy's vehicle was still in the parking lot from when she got a ride home from Cheryl

Friday evening.

Cheryl told her employer that she would go over to her sister's apartment and check

on her.

Nancy was a very responsible and dependable person and would never just not show up for

work.

Her being two hours late and not answering her phone made Cheryl so nervous she wasn't
