Next stop, the Twilight Song. into its second season, the popularity of the show was really

starting to grow. Rod Serling remembers, we hit approximately 500 letters a week, we have

fan clubs in 31 states, and now we have an average of 50-story ideas submitted to us each week

from people who dig fantasy, the unusual and the imaginative.

The book, Stories from the Twilight Zone was selling well, a comic book had been released, and the term the Twilight Zone was starting to become a part of pop culture zeitgeist.

Buckhouter may have memories of the show nearing cancellation, and the second series did

suffer from financial setbacks, but it seemed like the Twilight Zone was at an all-time

high.

To kick off the second season, Rod Serling revisited an idea that he'd used for the first season

pilot, the idea of being alone, only this time he was using a real-life mystery as his starting point.
