Summary

King Fisher was no ordinary Texas gunfighter. This is a man who once killed a circus tiger so that he could make a pair of chaps from its hide. He boasted of killing 37 men, and at the height of his power, commanded over 100 armed bandits, ruling South Texas like his own personal kingdom. Known for his gold-embroidered jackets, rattlesnake hatbands, bells on his spurs, and those infamous tiger-skin chaps, Fisher was equal parts deadly and flamboyant. Who was King Fisher? How does a man go from outlaw warlord to wearing a sheriff’s badge, only to end up gunned down in one of the most mysterious ambushes in Old West history? From cattle raids in the lawless Nueces Strip to a bloody night inside San Antonio’s Vaudeville Theatre, this is the strange, violent, and unforgettable story of John King Fisher. King Fisher was not your average Texas gunfighter. After all, this is a guy who once killed a circus tiger,

I mean, really.

only to then be gunned down in one of the most mysterious ambushes in all of Old West history?

Stick around and find out. My name's Josh, and this is the Wild West extravaganza. John King Fisher was born in October of 1853 and was now Collin County, Texas.

Sadly, his mother Lucinda passed away just a couple of years later, which point his father

Job moved the family south to Carnes County.

He would remarry, but I guess he had a little too much in common with his biblical namesake,

1:16.7

as wife number two also passed away, after which the family moved again, this time to the bustling

1:22.6

metropolis of Goliad. Worth noting that King Fisher did not get along with his stepmother.

1:28.8

Or I guess I should say he didn't get along with her while she was still alive.

1:32.5

There's even a story about her hanging him up from the doorway by his suspenders while she

was doing chores just to get him out of the way.

1:39.3

Sounds a little extreme, but then again, young Fisher was reportedly quite the handful, very mischievous.

And to make matters worse, when he reached his early teens, he also became very popular with

1:50.4

the young ladies, which in my opinion is not a good thing, at least not at that age.
