I'm John Batchel with my colleague and friend, Gregory Copley, editor and publisher of Defense and Foreign Affairs,

and the author of a new book, Noble State. I read from a passage of Gregory's recently published.

Each nation grows in capability by reposing values, honored, dignity, nobility, fairness, and justice, and overarching symbols above the process of government, which Bismarck suggested were close to the bloody process of making sausages.

These repositories of values are monarchs, heroes, thinkers, and writers.

And as we have seen in the United States, the Constitution. Gregory, when I measure the United

States against that paragraph, it's a shortfall. Can it be reignited?

Well, yes, of course it can, and it's shown resilience in this regard on many occasions.

The Constitution no longer is venerated as it should be, because the Constitution was, if you like, an animated inanimate object.

It was the crown in symbolic form.

It was the holder of all truth, and you had the Vestal Virgins, the Supreme Court,

interpreting that constitution for lawmakers and for the public and for the courts.

That can be restored, but it starts, if you like, one person at a time.

What we see in the United States, both by the people, residents of the United States and by foreigners, is that the US has

lost respect in the eyes of its observers. It's no long, there's, the trust between governed
