Hi, I'm Lavar Burton and this is Lavar Burton Reads.

Let's talk about why I want to do a podcast.

Yeah, well, here's the thing.

People have asked me for years and years when are you going to do content for adults?

And it's always been something that's on my mind, so I wanted to address that.

But I also get asked to read a lot.

I think a bucket list item for a lot of millennials is to have Lavar Burton read them a bedtime

story.

And I love reading aloud.

And I thought it would be cool to combine my love of reading, of storytelling, with my

love of short fiction.

I love short fiction.

There's a real art to writing a whole, a complete story, a satisfying storytelling experience,

a beginning, a middle, and an end in 30 to 40 pages.

It's not easy to do.

And there are people who have mastered that art, that craft.

So for my first selection for the podcast, I've chosen one of my favorite short fiction

pieces.

It's a story from 2006.

It first appeared in Asimov's science fiction, one of Hugo Award, in fact.

It's called Ken, K-I-N, by Bruce McAllister.
