Welcome back to the Be There and Five podcast. I'm Kate Kennedy, your host. Be There in Five is a long-form, long-running podcast about pop culture, the millennial zeitgeist, but not like entertainment news always as much as it's like the trends and like day to day things we participate in that make us

who we are that make us products of our time. I love trying to connect like the lore we share to

like what we're going through now. And today's episode is actually about hobbies. Hobbies,

interests, Pinterest. I thought about doing an episode about hobbies for a long time, but didn't really know. Like, well, what do I say specifically? Like, do we talk about the hobbies themselves to give people ideas, the concept of hobbies? Do I talk about mine? I wasn't really sure. Then I crowdsourced kind of with a variety of prompts. Like, you know, is there a hobby? You've taken on that to surprise you.

What holds you back from pursuing them? Have you found community? What are like some nostalgic

things you remember taking on? I mean, in the first 24 hours, got like over 100 emails. And I

started reading them and like sobbing. I wasn't expecting to be so moved. I didn't expect to have so

much to say. And by the time I

read all of them, I had also recorded with Carmen James, who's been on the podcast before,

love her. I think last time she was on was in maybe 2022. She's been on twice. She is somebody

people follow online. I feel like as much for her craftiness as her savviness. She's just great range of like the

things that really matter in educating her audience to like showing us her latest crochet project to

her adorable pet bunny. That's effectively an animatronic jelly kit. I feel like people like pet bunnies are so

cute. Well, I don't more of us have pet bunnies. Anyway, so yeah, I actually going to split this episode into two parts, which is very like archival BTI5. When there was too much to say, so we'd split into two parts, but I thought it might be a good idea. Well, I'm going to like muse in general about hobbies tell you about my recent like resurrection of my passions that is like really, I don't know, improve my quality of life. We're going to

talk about them in general and Carmen like finding community with hobbies and shoot the shit

about rapture talk, all the important things. And then next week I'll read your stories because
