Today's story is one that is almost impossible to process because it didn't just happen

In 1972, a seven-year-old boy named Stephen Stainer was kidnapped walking home from school.

He was held captive for seven years, raised under a different name, and told his family had given him away.

And then at 14, he did something almost unimaginable.

He rescued another child and walked into a police station to tell the truth.

It became one of the most talked-about cases of its time and then a two-part NBC miniseries

that millions of people watched.

At the center of that was a teenage actor stepping into something incredibly heavy and very

real.
