In 1989, five teenage boys from Harlem were accused of one of the most infamous crimes in New York City history.

The brutal assault and rape of a jogger in Central Park.

The case exploded across the media.

The boys became known around the world as the Central Park Five.

But the five teenagers, Kevin Richardson, Antron McCray, Yusuf Salam, Raymond Santana,

and Corey Wise always maintained they were innocent.

Years later, another man confessed to the crime, DNA matched him,

and the convictions were vacated. The Netflix limited series, When They See Us, created and directed

by Ava DeVernay, revisits the case from the boys' perspective, and follows the emotional,

psychological, and devastating toll the wrongful convictions took on them

and their families over decades. Today, I am ecstatic to say that we are joined by Jarrell,

Jerome, who played Corey Wise in the series, the only member of the five tried as an adult

and sent into the adult prison system.

Jarrell's gut-wrenching performance earned him the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a

limited series or movie.
