On February 18, 2008, police in Orange County, California got a frantic phone call from

my housewife and Phoenix, Arizona.

Her name was Carol Vendrick.

Her husband, 71-year-old retired businessman Robert Vendrick, was missing.

Carol told police that Robert, who goes by Bob, had gone to meet a business acquaintance

of his in California.

But he never called her over the weekend, never showed up at the airport in Long Beach,

and never came home.

Police went to search his hotel room at the Dana Point Marina Inn.

They found all of his belongings, including his suitcase and laptop computer inside the

room.

His diabetes medication was in the mini fridge.

The fire was still burning in the fireplace, and Bob's rented blue PT cruiser was parked

in the parking lot.

But there was no sign of Bob.

There was also no sign of his business partner Gary Shockey.

The supposed mastermind of a multi-million dollar government deal, motivational speaker,

fire walker, and conman.
