David Harris decided to visit a family friend at their flat on Gern Close in Tilehurst Reading.

It was not a social visit, more one of concern.

31-year-old Michael Wood had not been seen or heard from in several days.

This was very uncharacteristic of Woody, as he was more commonly known.

He was a sociable person.

Unfortunately, the man described as quiet and likable was often subjected to cruel

jibes and taunts when he left his home.

Woody was short in stature, standing at around five feet one inches tall.

He was thin and sometimes walked with a limp.

Despite the abuse, Woody's friends said he was kind and gentle, someone who avoided confrontation.
