Samantha was awakened by a kiss.

It hadn't come from a charming prince.

There had been no firm but gentle lips, no musky sandalwood scent drifting through the air.

There had been no rough, masculine stubble tickling her cheek.

No dashing smile.

No blue-eyed stare, no true love's first embrace.

There hadn't even been a damn horse.

No, this kiss had come in with a thundering crack. Its lips were made of rocks and dirt.

They sent shockwaves rippling through her skull, raked down her face, and pushed pebbles

inside of her nose and mouth.

But she was awake.

And that meant she was awake. And that meant she was alive.

This was the first of three thoughts that had burst into her mind the moment after her head slammed against the ground.
