Summary

Football finance expert Kieran Maguire explains the economics behind Liverpool FC and FSG's transfer strategy this summer - and whether more signings might be made. Joining Blood Red's Matt Addison, Kieran outlines the details behind the Reds' accounts, and why, if Jurgen Klopp was desperate to make a buy, the money IS there for that to be done. Liverpool's Nike kit deal has begun well, but they might not have a full stadium on a regular basis for some time yet. Kieran explains the current state of play, and why despite it not looking like it, the club has indeed been investing significantly. He also explains why the likes of Chelsea have spent so much this summer, and why even Manchester United have had to tread carefully in the market. The Liverpool Echo sends a twice-daily Liverpool FC bulletin out via email with the all latest news, views and analysis from Anfield. 0:42.3

Well, it's a strange world. Football finance has not stopped over the course of the summer. We've had the Manchester City verdict, Derby, Sheffield Wednesday, what's been happening at Wigan, issues at Charlton.

And it's actually nice to look forward to a bit of football because it's been a busy

1:01.6

summer. Yeah, absolutely that countdown on now for

1:04.6

Liverpool for their first game against Leeds United and I for one can't wait to

stands sell to buy let's get into some of the numbers behind Liverpool's finances

1:19.2

and you know in my research for this I've sort of been taking a look at the accounts and things like that and from what I can see the incoming in the latest accounts pretty much equate the outgoing which I guess kind of effectively explains Liverpool's financial model.

1:35.8

Very much so as far as the ultimate owner's FSG are concerned they want

1:42.2

Liverpool to be independent, that they want the club to effectively

1:46.2

be able to self-finance.
