This is the longest shortest time from WNYC. I'm Hillary Frank. Welcome to everyone who

0:07.6

found our show through our last episode should I be a parent. The feedback we've been hearing

0:12.8

from you has been just tremendous and I know that many of you are still no closer today

0:18.3

to figuring out whether or not you want kids than you were a couple weeks ago. We hope

0:23.1

that listening to our show and talking with people through our blog and Facebook groups

0:27.6

will help get you closer to your decision. Now whether you're on the fence or not,

0:32.8

here's something about parenthood that I know to be true. Kids ask crazy questions. The

0:39.2

questions can be hilarious, they can be invasive, they can give you the creeps, but no matter

0:45.0

what, they just don't stop. My kids questions for the last year or so have focused pretty

0:51.2

0:59.5

I'd call up someone who could actually answer their questions. Hi, Hillary. How are you?

1:05.0

Service and excited, totally normal things. This is Sarah Troop. She's the executive director of a

1:11.9

group called the Order of the Good Death. Their members are morticians and funeral directors and

1:18.0

also academics and artists who deal with death in their work. Their mission is to normalize death

1:24.2

for the rest of us. You may know their great video series, Ask a Mortician. Sarah is the person

1:30.6

who research answers for those videos. She also has her own blog about death rituals and food. It's

1:36.6

called nourishing death. Plus she's taking classes on forensic science, just for fun. Today we are so

1:44.2

lucky to have Sarah Troop with us to answer your kids questions about death. She is an expert on

1:49.8

this topic. And for the purposes of our show, she has an added superpower. For over a decade,

1:56.8

she taught preschool in kindergarten, which of course is the age when death questions begin. Stay

2:03.1

with us. So we took some questions from our audience and I'm going to play some of them for you.

2:15.2

Okay. So let's listen to the first clip. What's your name?
