Summary

As a business mogul, Keya has acquired an audience of nearly 40K Subscribers on her personal Youtube channel. This visionary started her haircare journey in the kitchen, whipping up high-quality ingredients for the basis of her incredible Everything Butter, loved by Black influencers including CurlieCrys, Amanda Finesse, and Anjie. From there, she documented her trials and errors on her YouTube channel, where she discusses anything from self-care, lavish living, and entrepreneurship advice for other Black women and small business owners.Keya’s success can be credited to her transparency, bubbly personality, and making maximum use of her platform by documenting different areas of her life. Seeing a woman of color in this space is inspiring more women to take action on their dreams, paving the way for other female entrepreneurs“Black women represent 42% of new women-owned businesses—three times their share of the female population—and 36% of all Black-owned employer businesses.” Although stunted since the pandemic, Keya perseveres.Today, the flourishing company that began in Keya’s kitchen is now available at Walmart, and her success has been featured in outlets like Cosmopolitan and Fashionista.--- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/skincareanarchy/messageSupport this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/skincareanarchy/supportSupport the show

0:34.0

and just like the influencer world and really like all of the inspiration that led to all of

0:39.2

your beautiful products. Okay. So can you get us like started on that? Like how did you start?

0:47.8

Well, I started on YouTube. I started back in around 2013, around when my daughter was born.

0:58.0

I started actually recording when I was in grad school as a way to, you know, just have a hobby.

1:04.8

I had a lot going on at that time. I was in grad school. I was also pregnant at that time,

1:11.0

and I was transitioning to natural hair. So that meant that I was no longer using chemicals

1:18.0

in my hair. And I really wanted to just document my hair journey and document the products that I

1:24.8

was making in the products that I was putting in my hair as well. So when I had my daughter, I started

1:35.2

to make videos showing people how to do babies here as well as my hair as well. And I was using

1:44.6

my own products. So at that time, this is around the time when there was no influencer marketing,

1:51.3

Instagram, there was no Instagram at this time as well. So a lot of people were searching for

1:58.1

information on the internet. And they were actually searching for it. And it wasn't really

2:04.3

searching for them. So at that time, it was a little bit different. And people were seeing the

2:11.7

results that I was getting with my hair as well as my daughters hair. So they started to request

2:17.3

that I make these products. So I was just doing it as a hobby at that time. I didn't know that it

2:22.4

would turn into the business that it is today. But it was just, yeah, it was just really a way for me to
