In Our Headphones is made possible in part by Thorntail Hard Agave. Storefinder at drinkthorntail.com. From independent music station, K-E-X-P, you're listening to In Our Headphones, a podcast about the songs that we just can't stop listening to. And this is Evie Stokes. This week, I am talking with my friend Chris Sainley. Hi, Chris. Hi, E. So you're the music director here at K-E-X-P and you brought a song that you want to share with us today. What you got? I did. So we're kind of back with what I'm calling the pop cast because I want to kind of break down some of my favorite artists from pop Montreal that I just went to you and there were so, so many. And while I was able to

0:39.3

catch like a few folks that, you know, I already knew and loved, so let Jesus.

0:44.2

You're going to witness all the days. You never stood to fight for your name.

0:52.7

And I will be there on. It was like the brand new discoveries that really just had my brain buzzing and having me like filled with excitement.

1:01.7

And that's, you know, why I was there was just to bring some exciting new music back for us here at K-EXP.

1:08.4

So there was a bunch of super solid indie rock from Menin.

1:12.5

Oh, my kingdom for me.

1:23.6

Witch victim.

1:24.6

I was a great for staying to stay. Witch victim.

1:42.7

And then one band that really stuck with me is work.

1:46.9

So I'm thrilled to bring in their song, taughtaut and Unfazed, from their 2024 album, Bent Out of Shape. So tell me about this band. They're so great. I was texting my

1:53.5

friend Omar, who recommended that I catch them when I was there. I was just like, dude, I'm kind of

1:58.2

obsessed. So they're a five piece from Montreal, formerly known as girl arm. And they just have this like angular, noisy post-punk sound that is just so right up my alley. It's like very raw and perfectly rough around the edges. And so, you know, like a little bit of chaos for good measure, but still

2:18.1

structured and melodic. And I was just hooked from the moment that I walked in there, like,

2:25.7

the layer guitars they have are just kind of in conversation with one another throughout all

2:30.7

of their songs. And you've got these like multilingual vocals in both English and

2:35.5

French, which totally makes sense since they're from Montreal. And their front person has this like

2:41.5

nonchalant yet kind of urgent vocal delivery. And I just love the way that they walk that line. And it

2:48.9

kind of has this cool like theatrical quality to it with a bit of vibrato in the mix and I was just I was so hooked and they had like a satchel they would pull some tricks out of during their set from like an orange that they could peel during it or a pair of flamingo sunglasses because why not yeah um. Yeah, they're so great. I could not stop

3:10.3

thinking about this band once I got back. So I like dug into the music I was able to find in

3:15.5

this particular song, Tottenunfay's just like, it's got the hooks. You've got the really great

3:21.1

guitar work. Just so easy to get lost in.
