I'm Mick Garrus, and this is Postmortem.

I'd like to take some time to salute trailblazing genre filmmakers

from a particularly transformative decade in cinema history.

The 1970s were a time of massive upheaval in the movie industry.

The tools of making movies were getting lighter, less expensive,

and the concept of the truly independent film

from truly independent filmmaking minds became a reality.

Nowhere was that more apparent than in the horror film world.

Although the doors started to open in the 1960s,

as usual when discussing cultural tight stones through the decades,

there is some overlap.

But I want to give credit and thanks to those original minds

in the horror genre who helped change the course of the modern horror film.

And finally, those filmmakers who have passed in the interim.
