| 1:25.2 | the great society and LBJ's great society, what do we mean when we refer to it? |
| 1:30.8 | Well, the Great Society was Lyndon Johnson's vision for the country. And this is something |
| 1:36.1 | George H.W. Bush talked about the vision thing. And that was a common perception or understanding |
| 1:43.5 | that if you were going to be a successful president, |
| 1:45.8 | you had to have a vision of how you were going to transform the society. |
| 1:49.0 | And so, you know, in the 20th century, you've had Theodore Roosevelt and his new nationalism, |
| 1:52.9 | Wilson and the new freedom. |
| 1:54.2 | You have the New Deal, the Fair Deal, the New Frontier, the Great Society with Lyndon |
| 1:58.5 | Johnson, and sort of so on down the line. |
| 2:01.8 | And there's always this perception that we need to transform society. |
| 2:05.9 | And this was Johnson's way of doing it. |
