today is one of the most revered

sound mixers in movie history and also the person who has the most Oscar

nominations without a win in Oscar history, the great Kevin O'Connell, who this year for his work on Mel Gibson's

war film Hacksaw Ridge is nominated for the best sound mixing Oscar for the 21st time and could win

for the first.

O'Connell who is 59 has been in the business for nearly 40 years, starting out as a junior technician

on movies like the Empire Strikes Back and Raiders of the Lost Arc and then working his way up to a

full-fledged re-recording mixer on movies like The Big Chill and Terms of Endearment

the latter of which brought him his first Oscar nomination 33 years ago.
