Only a few weeks in, and already, 2023, is proving to be tumultuous on all fronts.

In terms of the weather, the East Coast and Midwest are faring well after winter storms, but there is no rest for the West Coast. As of Wednesday, 17 people had been killed

during deadly storms currently drenching California. Hit particularly hard was Santa Cruz

and Montecito counties.

But the whole state is reporting not just torrential rain, but mudslides, flooding, sinkholes, and literal rivers in the sky.

Back in the bull's eye, tonight it's waterlogged northern California swapped by yet another deluge as a flood of problems washes over the region.

After a rare and violent round of hail, thunder, and lightning in the Bay Area,

flash flooding, debris flows, and mudslides have buried highways, bridges, and train tracks.

The costly damage to statewide infrastructure, which experts say could top a billion dollars,

is skyrocketing.

California's economy has recently been upgraded from the sixth to the fourth in the world,

making California's economy larger than Germany and the United Kingdom if the state were an independent

nation.

After a decades-long mega-draught, much more rain will be needed to fully lift California
