People were coming at you after your book came out, thick up in water, and being like,

oh, you're so brave, you're so brave.

Yeah, at first, when people were saying you're so brave, because of the old patterns that are so ingrained in me and my family,

of like, we keep a secret, we don't air our dirty laundry, right?

Like, when people would say you're brave, I thought they were throwing shade at me, like,

hmm, you've done something you shouldn't have done.

That's how it felt.

Like, oh, you're so brave and that's not okay.

And that's not what people were saying.

I mean, there may be somebody who feels that way.

I'm sure, in fact, I know that there were people who felt that I may be shared too much,

even though there may be dynamics at play where other people feel shame because of my courage,

that doesn't mean that I have to feel ashamed of my choice to be brave about my life and taking control of my narrative.

You know what, too. I'm from Toronto and it's an insult, actually, like a Caribbean insult's like, wow, guy, you're brave.

Like, and to be brave means like, oh, like you're overstepping right now.

And that is what being brave is. so I guess you can hold both truth
