Happy to be joined once again by Zach Gagan of also Kentucky sports radio for your you know that it's officially basketball season so we want to bring you the the most jam packed just action packed basketball podcasts you will find to preview the Kentucky man's basketball team the Kentucky women's basketball team and hell we might even toss in a little bit of NBA talk there at the end so we have plenty to just

discuss Zach how are you doing today I'm doing fantastic it's been a good day basketball starts tomorrow we're recording Tuesday good times in the in or in the air yeah we usually record Fridays but with you know with with I mean this is the day before it's like it's like Christmas Eve you know for us how much we love basketball season this is I mean this is the day before Christmas for us this is like Thanksgiving Eve

Eve yeah but also Chris it's like Christmas and Thanksgiving combined for the two of us we are die hard basketball fans we are thrilled for basketball season to be here we both have games to discuss with the Kentucky men's team playing more head state Wednesday evening and then the Kentucky women's team will also be playing Wednesday afternoon they will be taking on Murray State so plenty to talk about we are so excited about it.

So we're going to kind of use this as a as a preview of sorts for the more head state and Murray State matchups but also talk about the last week in kind of you know a week in review of big blue madness some injury updates the week you know you know massive scheduling update with this bluegrass showcase it's going on with with the Kentucky team so plenty to discuss we are absolutely thrilled about it Zach I'm going to ask you where do you want to start this thing off.

Oh where do I want to start let's let's start with the hot topics and we'll move into men's basketball and let's immediately talk about Detroit mercy getting the boot bingo from the bluegrass showcase as it has been dubbed so KSR zone so KSR zone Matt Jones who some rumble you know our you know our boss here at KSR he reported late last night that there were rumblings that one team that was said.

That to take on Kentucky this weekend was going to be forced to pull out of the event due to covid reasonings and then within like an hour later we found out that it was Detroit mercy and it makes sense because if you listen to caliperies pre game press conference he said as of right now the three teams that were set to play they have all kind of gotten their boxes checked and they're all OK to go and he said but I am going to text Brad back right after this because they tested last night and they're also there.

They're supposed to get their results back today so it was very much it was very much you think you knew well here's the interesting part they were 15 minutes late for this press conference and that never

for him. Cal is always five minutes late he's the king of being five minutes late but not a second more he's he's very punctual about his five minute tardiness so when when we kind of got to that 10 minute mark you're like OK we'll talk us up to we'll talk this up to being you know first first game scheduling jitters you know whatever the whatever the cases but when we sort of get into that 15 20 minute range we were like something ain't right here and he said when he came back they said that they had a team

meeting about something and then it wasn't but six hours later I believe that news broke that that Kentucky would be and not looking for a new opponent but would be without an opponent for Friday Friday evening so yeah so that I mean kind of sucks that we were kind of planted on I believe what we were talking about this before is going to be four games and six days Wednesday Friday Sunday Tuesday so

or seven that's ridiculous right yeah yeah so a pretty hectic schedule probably going to end up working out at the end in terms of given this team a little bit of a break and and you know relaxing them a little bit because that's that's a heavy heavy workload for anybody doesn't matter how good the team is so I'm sure they are feeling good about a little much needed break to begin the season and

Detroit mercy confirmed that they're going to be hoping to postpone this game for later in the season so we're still going to get the return of Brad Calipari so all the that's the die hard Brad the die hard Brad Calipari fans out there they're still going to get their wish with this reunion but we also get a little built in break much needed thanks giving break for for the group so I think at the end of the day it is a win for the Kentucky basketball program I think that's the the biggest question is is the rescheduling and that should be

because from what I understand is there is there's I don't they're still doing minimum requirements for in terms of games that you have to play so you can be eligible for the tournament so if down the road I mean they have a couple days built in for stuff like this right or the mid the

women's team does I'm sure the men's team is yeah but I think that's more so the SEC built building in SEC games but you had to figure that if they had to fit something in like that because if let's say Kentucky's like a game or two away from missing this

requirement which they might just get rid of all together if things continue to go on the path that they are yeah I I think they'll find a way to fit it in

somehow some way if it's a Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. if they have to that would be great it it it'll be it'll be a it'll be a last

second you know maybe maybe a small maybe to close out the season you know a little Brad Calipari reunion to

or I think that'd be a cool way to end the year if we if need be so we'll see not a great start in terms of the the

optics of the college basketball season considering I think that the latest tally was 33 teams are now postponed slash on pause slash awaiting test results

whatever the case is big programs too not the best start dukes dukes opening season game got pushed back to Saturday Tennessee's got just

delayed again Tennessee's out for two weeks for their stuff so yeah I mean it's you can the women's basketball is out to they
