Summary

When Kentucky and EKU meet on the football field it’s going to be an uncomfortable affair for the Big Blue Nation. The two programs are located just 30 minutes apart off I-75. The third matchup in the last nine seasons looked a lot like the first two. Kentucky fell behind early, then out-willed and out-talented the Colonels in a 28-17 victory. A blocked punt opened the door for EKU to strike first. Kentucky trailed 7-0 until the final minute of the first half. Even after the Wildcats responded and seemed to take control with an 11-point lead in the third quarter, the Colonels didn’t go away without a fight. Eastern Kentucky put together a nine-play, 75-yard scoring drive to cut the deficit to four with 12 minutes to play. Kentucky’s passing game struggled to take flight early, but Tayvion Robinson provided enough fireworks for the Wildcats. The super senior caught six passes for 136 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Devin Leary finished the day 24-of-38 for 299 yards, four touchdowns and an interception.

Nick Roushback here with you for another rapid reaction, Adam Bucket's here, and for the first time

0:06.0

at a Kentucky football game, it's Jacob Polichek, Jacob. How was your first Kentucky football experience?

0:10.9

It was interesting, that's for sure. The first half a little slow start, but we got it going in

0:15.6

the second half, so it was a fun time. Little did he know, look, this is just what happens

0:19.8

when Kentucky plays the EKU. It's going to be ugly, and then they're going to figure it out,

0:23.4

and then they're going to win the damn ball game. But I was going to have to put my arm around,

0:25.7

I'm just showing them the exits here in about the middle of the first quarter, but

0:28.8

Kentucky figured it out in the second half. A frustrating day, really. I think all the way around,

0:34.2

a frustrating day. Defense kind of dominated the first half. Offense kind of dominated the second

0:39.8

half, but both sides didn't play well in the other half. So you didn't really play a complimentary

0:43.6

football, and then it's special teams to make some good plays. Barry and Brown sets up the touchdown

0:48.0

reception there at the end of the first half, but you get a kick block, a punt block, first

0:52.1

possession of the game sets up EKU's first touchdown. So a lot of some good, but then a lot of bad,

0:57.8

and it was just kind of, eh, you just left the stadium, eh, you realize Kentucky's going to win

1:02.2

the game in the second half, but you were just like, eh, they're just not playing there, that will,

1:05.6

and it's an ugly win at the end of the day, and you really didn't want it to be an ugly win.

1:10.4

I'm going to recreate Mark Schoops's post-game press conference. Complementary football,

1:15.5

we did good, it was very, it was good, we won, we're true, no, we're not. Yeah, he wanted

1:22.3

penalties. He wanted to not be mad and rip his team publicly, but it wasn't pretty Jacob,

1:29.1

it was not ugly, but you know what, they ended up winning the football game, and the way that I like

1:34.6

to think of it Jacob, this is the preseason. The real season starts in two weeks, so you got to,

1:41.2

you didn't lose the preseason game, you're two and no, you just keep moving forward, keep pushing
