We have all been watching the Olympics.

And, you know, for years, every contest, every four years, you look at these athletes and they seem to accomplish superhuman feats.

And we really idealize them and live through them and have incredible expectations because if they succeed and win gold medals, they become lifetime famous. And there's really nothing else where

you can concentrate so much effort and so much attention in a short period of time and have

those kind of brand building results. But it's almost like an addiction that we've come to

in this country because there is

a bit of vicarious living, but also there's something very inspiring about that. And, you know,

on the plus side, we take something away from people who live and train and sweat and bleed for something that they love.

And then when they are able to take all of the elements of hard work and physical gifts and, you know, mental acuity and combine them for Olympic greatness, there is, it seems, no other physical achievements like that.

That is the ultimate ideal, particularly in a culture that has a winning mindset as we do.

And, you know, winning is not the worst thing of the world, but for a lot of these athletes,

they internalize it truly as the only thing.

And something that that is where they build their identity. That is where they derive their sense of self.

And when the Olympics are over, what happens to those athletes? What happens to that identity, particularly for those, if you're only competing every four years,

you've only got so many Olympic cycles depending on your sport.
