There have been some hot button education topics in front of the Indiana General Assembly this year.

Yeah, quite a few actually.

Everything from whether school board races are going to be partisan, which died,

apparently to whether or not you can talk about sex with kids and grades K through three,

which is apparently still alive. And I said, look, let's reset everything.

Let's find out where we are on all these hot button education topics.

Let's go to one of the best in the business.

Nikki, it is another wild and wacky year with education in the Indiana General Assembly.

Has anything surprised you so far?

No, I don't think so. I think we expected a lot of these bill to get hearings.

There's I guess the only surprise so far is maybe the amount of transgender related

bills. They've always been filed in the past, but not in hearings, not lose through the process.

And we are definitely seeing way more of that.

Otherwise, on the education front, there are several controversial bills that we've seen

for several years. So they're coming up again as expected.

Now, you had a column over at Indiana Capitol Chronicle about some of the maybe not quite as

hot button topics in education that are still important. We'll get to those in a second.

Let's start with that the partisan school board bill, which didn't even get a vote in the house

after making out a committee. Is that normal for a bill to make it out of a committee and then
