So our next guest says redistricting is going to cause a bunch of chaos with the elections, but he's for it. Anyway, let's get to the bottom of it. Kennel of Casey Show. I'm Rob Casey's out today. Ethan's in for Casey. Our old pal, Knox County Clerk, David Shelton, our guest now he is running for Secretary of State on the Republican side. David Shelton, hello. Good morning, Rob. How are you today? All right. So this is very

interesting to me because, look, and I have said, you are running against Diego Morales at the

convention next June. All members of decent and good society should be cheerleading for you

because any person that can get us rid of Diego Morales were on board. But I have several

questions because you had sent me.

You are the Knox County clerk.

Correct.

Which means you administer elections for a living.

Yes, I do. You actually know how to do the job of Secretary of State. That's the illusion I'm trying to maintain. Very good. Okay. So you had messaged me and let's start with this. You had said if the Republicans indeed do go forward with redistricting, it's going to cause a lot of

chaos, especially at this late date. Tell us about that. All right. So the first deadline we have to

be aware of is this is early as December 1st. We can start accepting absentee applications from voters

all around the state. For a primary? For a primary? Yeah, that's the same law In December 1st. So that's a date. So we're going to have to hold those and they may have to be amended or refiled if they change congressional districts. That's one concern there. Another concern I have is the Democrat precinct committe are on the ballot next year. They have to live in the precinct they're running for.

So any changes involving congressional redistricting will probably involve a split precinct here and there.

We don't know the extent how many, it may only be a half dozen counties that'll have split precinct,

but new precincts will have to be established before candidates can sign up to run for a Democrat precinct committement spot. That deadline right now,

you can start signing up as early as January 7th. Okay, so are those sort of the two main things? Because I look at this and say, well, how would I even know if I want to run? I don't know what the

district is going to be until, I guess Braun has said November, right?

We're almost to November anyway.

Then you got to fundraise.

I mean, that would seem to cause mass havoc on if you even want to run for this office.

Well, yes and no.

The local districts, county, statewide, those districts aren't changing whatsoever.
